(Macon, GA) –Main Street Macon will work with two local designers to develop a distinct brand for downtown Macon. The community is invited to provide input in the creative process.
In 2016, Main Street Macon won a grant from the Downtown Challenge Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to develop a master signage plan for downtown Macon. Main Street Macon selected Wimberly Treadwell, Landscape Architect, and Elizabeth Schorr & Co. to develop the plan that will contribute to a sense of place in downtown Macon through branding and wayfinding signage.
“The Macon Action Plan emphasizes signage and branding as a critical method for creating an unparalleled experience in the urban core,” said Wimberly Treadwell. “Elizabeth and I are thrilled to have been selected to enhance the pedestrian experience by developing graphics that express the excitement surrounding downtown Macon.”
On Tuesday, July 17, Wimberly Treadwell and Elizabeth Schorr & Co. will lead two meetings to gather input from the public to develop a brand for downtown Macon that will be used to create graphics for signage. The first meeting will take place at 8:30am in the Travis Jean event space (530 Cherry Street) and the second meeting will take place at 6pm at the Creek Stage at the Rookery (533 Cherry Street). Both meetings will provide more information about Main Street Macon’s downtown signage program and will help the designers answer three major questions:
What does a brand for downtown Macon mean?
How do you define the boundaries of downtown Macon?
How can wayfinding signage enhance downtown Macon’s sense of place?
“Branding is more than a logo, it’s a common thread that creates a sense of place,” said Elizabeth Schorr of Elizabeth Schorr & Co. “I’m excited to hear what downtown means to our community and how that can be communicated visually.”
The two public meetings held on July 17 will be the first step in creating a brand for downtown Macon and developing a master signage plan using community input.
